CROWN AND BRIDGE

WHAT IS A DENTAL CROWN?

A crown is a type of dental restoration, which fits on top of and around your existing tooth – the concept of a helmet over the tooth. You will need a crown if your tooth is very worn down or if the tooth had a root canal or if the tooth has cracks running through the tooth. A crown can protect the tooth from cracking.

WHAT IS A DENTAL BRIDGE?

A bridge is a 3 unit configuration of ” Crown-False Tooth-Crown” joined together.

This treatment option is an effective way to replace a single missing tooth or up to 2 teeth that is missing next to each other.

These options match the shape and colour of your surrounding teeth as closely as possible to give you a natural-looking result.

CROWN AND BRIDGE PROCESS

First, your dentist takes an impression of your damaged tooth using an intraoral scanner, which is a thin hand-held device that we move carefully around your mouth to take pictures. This makes the process quick, easy and comfortable.

Next, we send your impressions to a dental laboratory where a dental technician will use them to create your crown. It will be custom designed for you so that it fits over your existing tooth and blends in with the rest of your teeth.

When your dentist receives your dental crown from the laboratory, they will prepare your existing tooth so that it can be fitted over the top.
